3G phone instead of modem kit

Now that I have my laptop my next plan is to have a 3G mobile phone. Instead of getting those kit/modem (SmartBro Prepaid Kit, Globe Visibility) that our network carrier sells to get connected online. The kit/modem cost PHP4,500/unit however, the mobile phone I’m planning to get cost around PHP5K with 3G connectivity for fast surfing experience just hook the mobile phone to the laptop via USB and imagine buying that kit/modem that you cannot even use to call or text your relatives and friends but the LG KU250 has it all for a very reasonable price.
